Use other fingers on my bass, besides my index finger? For plucking the strings?

It is tougher than one-finger plucking, but most bassists train themselves to do it.

On thing to keep in mind -- and you will have to practice this -- is to make sure that the volume and tone of the notes you pluck with any additional finger are the same as with your index finger.

But also, the great 60's and 70's studio bassist Jerry Scheff used only his index finger! And he did multiple tours with Elvis; and several albums with the Doors and they were negotiating with him to join the group when Jim Morrison died. And yes he did that classic driving bassline that opens "L.A. Woman" with one finger!!
