Answers:

With normal chords, you have to change your fingers all the time to change chords. In a bar chord you keep your fingers in the same position (roughly), and slide your hand to different frets in order to change chords. Play an F, this is the formation of the bar chord. Index finger covering all six strings on fret 1. Middle finger pressing 3rd string from bottom on fret 2. Ring finger pressing 5th string from bottom on fret 3, pinkie pressing 4th string from bottom on fret 3. If your index finger is on the first fret, the chord is F, and sliding your finger up one fret will increase the chord by a half step. (2nd Fret = F#, 3rd Fret = G, 4th Fret = G#. etc)
