Gansta rap gives hiphop a bad reputation?

who else agrees with me? i mean
I like,love hiphop, and ppl assume i listen to gansta rap ( snopp dog and all those ganster rapperS)
and those rappers in my opinio give a bad name to the rest of the hiphop community

yeah but gasnter rappers say they are hiphop....and ppl think thats all there when there is more than that

I kinda have to agree that it does give Hip Hop a bad rep.

First, Hip Hop wasn't started as gangsta music. That came later. That came after the culture had already spread out and people everywhere were first starting to listen to it, and it only got worse as rap has gone pop/mainstream because drama sells. It's sad that you almost NEED to have "street cred" to sell now. And it just promotes the worse stereotypes of black people most of the time. And that's so easy to do that people actually think they sound good when they just flow about the same ol' "bangin', hos, and the club" type of stuff.

I don't think the art of emceeing was meant for fools like Snoop to just get on the mic and spit any and everything, and make up words that rhyme with "izzle" just 'cuz it "sounds" cool.

Emceeing was growing and evolving from when Run DMC and them laid the foundation. Rakim built on it too, and helped bring a new sound in the '90s. And don't get me wrong. There are some dudes who were down with something, and just still had that talent and made good music. Tupac is a great example of that. And I could list more.

But MOST gangsta rappers aren't like that. Young Jeezy comes to mind. This dude has nothing to offer Hip Hop. He just has good hype at the moment, and young girls like watching him. And most gangsta rap sounds like him or worse, but for some reason sex and drama sell better than good music. So that's why everybody's gotta have a gimmick. that's why beef escalates right around the time somebody's album is about to drop.

If you wanna bang, fine. But just because you can rhyme "I shot that cat." with " I pulled my gat." doesn't make you a good rapper. Step your rap game up. You can have beef with whoever you want, and still suck.

Besides, there's a WHOLE WORLD out there besides that 'on tha block sh1t'. Why not talk about it?
