Answers:
You're a singer? I do this exercise DAILY with my students - among several others. Slow enough to hear, so they can NAIL the center of each pitch.
Do-re; do - mi; do - fa; do - sol (all the way up. Then from the top down Do-ti; do - la; etc. to the bottom. You constantly have a tonic note to tune up to. When doing this with a group (voice class) we can do it as a round - sound cool. do-re, do mi - 2nd group starts do - re; do - mii.
There are Tuning CDs sold, that give you a reference tone with which to tune as you sing or play. Me? I put a lead fishing weight on one key of a synth (a Steinway grand and 5 electric synth keyboards in this house - plus another 50 grand in woodwinds - we never run out!)
Music is an art in which you must train yourself to LISTEN first - then sing or play. People often dive in before they have a good sense of what they have heard, and must match or blend with.
