I think Beethoven should never have been ASKED to roll over. Some advice on Moza!

Question:

I think Beethoven should never have been ASKED to roll over. Some advice on Mozart, and that Russian geezer?

I've been listening to classical music since the day before yesterday, so bear with me. I decided to start with Beethoven's symphonies, on the grounds that he's Beethoven, and they're symphonies, and bloody well ought to be pretty good. Some people on here advised me to start with the 9th. Well, I don't need to "know" anything to enjoy that. That 9th symphony is the dog's bollocks. Then I listened to the 5th, but I got interrupted by visitors, have to give it another go. I forgot what was playing, and thought it was Pink Floyd for a minute. (Don't throw yourself out of the window, I've nearly finished.) Last night the 6th, the Pastoral one, I like that too. You start off fannying about in a field, then there's a thunderstorm, and then the sun comes out again, and any idiot can follow that, even me.
You're probably impressed by such an informed critique of Beethoven from one so inexperienced. As you can see, I'm taking to this like a duck to water. Please suggest something by Mozart or

Tchaicovsky that will blow me away like that 9th, and get me into their other work. Thank you!

Answers:

For Mozart take in both Symphony # 40 and #41 and for Tchaikovsky you want to listen to the 4th , 5th, and 6th symphonies. And just for fun you might want to try A. Dvorak's 8th and 9th(New World) symphonies.

Also you might want to take time to listen to some of the lighter works of these composers. Listen to Beethoven's "Coriolanus" and "Egmont" overtures, Tchaikovsky's "1812 overture", "Capriccio Italien" and "Serenade in C" and Mozart's "Serenades for Winds" (Nos. 10, 11,12) and his "Eine Kleine Nachtmusik."

Enjoy!!!
