Are there any heavy metal albums that are considered to be strange, but make uni!

Question:

Are there any heavy metal albums that are considered to be strange, but make unique listening experience?

By "strange" I mean things like Lou Reed's Metal Machine Music; music that baffles the critics.

Answers:

If you can stand extreme music, you may want to check out "In a Flesh Aquarium", an album by the band Unexpect, on The End Records (label). The music is extremely difficult to describe. Most will say it's like Cirque du Soleil on acid. :)

But more precisely, it's a mix of black, death and progressive metal, taken to extremes with insane tempo changes, odd time-signatures and whacked out vocal approach (meaning there'll be shrieks, grunts, clean singing, choirs, spoken passages and even operatic parts). Instrumentally speaking, it's fairly "normal", except for the violin parts and the odd sound effect here and there (like the circus-like music that seems to pop in at some points).

So, it's a very hard-to-digest album, very chaotic at first. It takes a lot of listens and patience to make out the songs. And that comes from someone who "clicks" on albums right away and thinks prog isn't that hard to get into, mind you.

So if you're very open-minded, don't mind extreme genres of metal and looking for something definitely unique, very difficult to get into but ultimately very rewarding, look no further. :)
