I'VE APPARENTLY STIRRED UP A HORNET'S NEST HERE, SO....
some replies are definitely in order:
I will agree that the man had talent. Where I have issues is with the idolatry taking place even today regarding him. My own personal opinion, which I'm perfectly entitled to, is that I don't think he was that great. I respect anybody else's opinion.
Ladybug, I agree. He was gone waaay too soon at 27. From what I've read about him however, he didn't seem to care.
Fonzie T. & Mr. MK, I truly respect your differing opinions. Fonz, you explained yourself. The reason I didn't before is because I figured people at Y/A don't like lengthy reasons,& explanations. Mr. MK, you got right to the point.
Jenyfer, I respect your right to disagree, but I must dispute one point: Les Paul is the first guitar god.
Jmann, isn't calling me an idiot kind of 4th grade-ish?
Little Miss Whatever, does your ridiculous statement mean I should be supporting gun-toting rappers, Crips & Bloods, & OJ Simpson?
Answers:
If you're gonna make such an outrageous statement, I think it'd be great to see your reason(s) why & not just leave it at "I think he was".
The number of guitarists in the last 35-40 years Hendrix inpsired to pick it up & play is immeasurable & no one can deny that. That in itself should say he is decidedly Not overrated. Teens of 2007 still wear his t-shirts & listen to his music. That should say something about the quality.
You are so wrong, it's not even funny....
