Good basslines?

Answers:

As overlooked by many young musicians as it is, check out the ENTIRE Motown catalog from 1959-1971 and listen to the first true modern Electric Bass hero James Jamerson. Listen to his transition from playing upright bass in to electric "Fender" bass and then really become insanely groove-a-licious.
I used to take Motown for granted as a given when I was a young musician since it was always playing on the soundtrack of my life. Read the book "Standing In the Shadows of Motown" and THEN watch the movie of the same name. I recommend it this way so that you can gain insight on the great innocuous bass lines we've all heard but yet the complexities involved in them and also the life story of James Jamerson. Then you can watch the movie in which the role of the rest of the Motown studio band (The Funk Brothers) is expanded.
I truly believe this will help you become a much better bassist.
I just want to set one thing clear for everyone. I am a professional bassist and play MANY, MANY styles of music on both upright and electric. James Jamerson is just a major revelation for many bassists that want to get better at what they do, regardless of style.
