Guitar tuning?!

Question:

Guitar tuning?

Okay. I'm basically imcompetent when it comes to tuning a guitar.

I have the E A D and B tuned correctly but I can't get G or high E to tune. I feel like it isn't high enough but if I make them go any higher my strings will break! And I just put them on!

What could I have done wrong/what should I do??

Answers:

Well, I think you should know that G is always a drag to tune. Even professional guitarists have a hard time with the G, so you're not alone in that. As far as the high E, when you're starting out it always feels like it's going to pop if you wind it up that high. but it only breaks sometimes. If they're good strings, it will be OK.

Make sure your guitar is set up right. If you don't know, take it to a music store and ask them to set it up for you and tune it. That way they'll make any adjustments your guitar might need and let you know if you have any problems. If it's an electric you might want to ask them to do the intonation as well. A lot of guitars need setup, especially now when so many people buy their guitars from Ebay or internet music stores.

Good luck, and keep playing!
