In truth Alice in Chains is/was a better band. Capitalizing on the success of Nirvana and Pearl Jam record companies scoured Seattle for bands. The way I see it Nirvana was basically Kurt Cobain and drummer and a bass player... Kurt was a genius and it is too bad that he could not weather the storm. So to me "band" implies a certain level of involvement and control exerted by a group of players. Alice in Chains was a great band... Nirvana was all Kurt... and Kurt is a legend now.
