The disease is never specified in the song, it is just life threatening, and death is approaching for the man. He goes on to do all the things he needed/wanted to do.
THIS SONG WAS NOT WRITTEN ABOUT TIM's FATHER! tim did not even write this song and it really bothers me when people say it was written for Tug-tims dad. However, tim did release it when he found out tug had cancer. THIS IS A GREAT SONG, though:)
