American Idol audition song choices?!

American Idol audition song choices?

Like thousands before me, and thousands alongside, I am planning to audition for American Idol this summer. I am still in the process of narrowing down my song choices, and am looking for a little input.

My range is similar to that of Jewel, Norah Jones, Dinah Shore, Amanda Palmer...maybe a mix of Fiona Apple and Diana Krall. I can sing soprano, but I don't want to push it too far with the high notes in an audition (nerves could cause disaster, and I don't want to set myself up for that). I'd prefer not to sing anything too recent. Not only because it's not really my style, but I know the judges tend to like classics. Still, I want something that I can be impressive enough to get me through to the final three judges. I'm confident I could do just fine auditioning for Simon, Randy and Paula; it's getting there that's the tough part.

So, yes! Any ideas? I appreciate it greatly. Cheers.

I wasn't looking for songs necessarily within those artists--those are simply the artists whose voices mine is similar to.

And I'll be auditioning in Omaha. I don't have an outfit decided on just yet.

I've been in many musicals, and have been singing in public since I was a child, so I'm quite confident I can manage. I make sure to surround myself with people who care enough not to let me embarrass myself. I'm on youtube under the same moniker as I use on here. Granted, those performances aren't my best, but that's all I have up right now. Cheers.

I think you should sing....ummm.....Again and Again by Jewel, 'cause that's a great song and not to hard to sing with music.
