How can I strengthen my vibrato when singing ?!

Question:

How can I strengthen my vibrato when singing ?

I have been classically trained for 4 months and suddenly realised a slight trill in my voice. Was quite fond of that. My music teacher, however, wouldn't show me how to strengthen it at all but continued with all those techniques. She said it was just a "satisfactory side effect of a properly trained voice". Is it true by any chance ? I mean, I'm fervently dying to have a strong quavering trill, is there anyway I can achieve it in a few months time ? Thanks for all your helps ;-D

Answers:

your teacher is absolutely right- a good vibrato is the natural side effect of having proper breath flow control and relaxed musculature in the throat. Your vocal cords not only swing from side-to-side to produce the sound, they also oscillate up-and-down as a result of the air passing through the glottal opening between them. We hear and sense the air flow turbulence as vibrato. Since you have "only" been at it for 4 months, a pat on the shoulder, but don't go overboard. Your teacher's comment is just right. Keep up the good work you have started, and find out what the really amazing things you can learn to do with your voice are.
Best wishes and keep on singing
