Southern Rock on Guitar?!

Question:

Southern Rock on Guitar?

I play the electric guitar and i was just wondering how those guys like Lynyrd Skynyrd, Allman Brothers Band, ..... get that "Southern Rock" guitar sound if anybody could help me out i'd really appreciate it!

Answers:

Sound depends on the equiptment you are using and also your picking style. Also your rhythm. You have to remember that most of their stuff was written in the key of E and G such as Molly Hatchett. Try not to use to much distortion and a tube amp really helps. The tube amp when it heats up it has the perfect distortion unlike a solid state amp. It's crunch is sweeter when the tubes heat up. A good example of good distortion was the Beatles *Daytripper* or *Revolution*. But listen to some of Skynyrds music and you will see their distortion is not very trashy. Try some of it in the key of *A*.
