Looking for a quality first electric guitar--need your advice?!

Question:

Looking for a quality first electric guitar--need your advice?

Hi Everyone-- I've played piano and acoustic for quite a while now, and I'm thinking about getting an electric. It looks like fun :-). But I don't want to get one of those super cheap packages or guitars, with the horrible machine heads and pickups. Something with decent pickups, quality build, and versitility for effect add-ons, etc. I don't know much at all about electrics--so I'd appreciate your advice. Maybe a few suggestions in a few price ranges (starting at $200 and up to $600) and brief reasons WHY will def get a best answer. Thanks in advance!! I appreciate the help!

Answers:

Try looking at Jackson or Ibenez guitars they are reasonably priced and have a nice sound. I have a Jackson Kelly and I am very happy with it. If you get a guitar with locking keys you will be better off as well because it wont go out of tune as easily. Ultimatly with electric the guitar will only matter so much if you are going to spend more money on one thing spend it on the amp. The amp you choose can make even one of those cheap package guitars sound good. Try looking at guitar center.com or shop there if you have one near you they usually have some good deals. I practically live there.
