Answers:

Yes. You can use the computer. You will need software like Roxio, Roxio Audio (part of the package) has some very nice sound editing & recording tools to eliminate hiss, pops and an equalizer to adjust the sound.

You will also need a wire to connect your cassette player to your pc, the type of wire will depend on the cassette player and the pc, but most likely a mini stereo jack to a mini stereo jack (available at Radio Shack for around $6) should do the trick.

Plug one end of the mini jack to the headphone plug on the cassette player, plug the other end into the "audio in" plug of the PC. Most PCs nowadays have an "audio in" right on the front plate, older ones have it in the back it's the blue plug, you can also use the pink one but that's the "mic in" (for microphones).

Once you have all that you can start Roxio, select the Audio Tab then click on the "convert LPs and tapes on the menu", when that starts click record the hit the play key on the cassette player.

You may have to fiddle around with it a few times but it's not all that hard. Then you can use Roxio to transfer the tracks to a CD.
