What are your favorite vocal exercises?!

Question:

What are your favorite vocal exercises?

I'm a very undisciplined singer, and I think my voice suffers for that fact. I often sing along to music, but rarely do any real, organized practice other than that. Just doing scales can get REALLY boring. And practicing tone, diction and vowels, well, I have no clue how.

I guess I'm just wondering what everybody here does to keep it interesting.

Answers:

An excellent one is simply humming. It gently warms up your vocal chords without risk of over-exertion.

Another one is singing three tones up a scale, beginning on every note once, one after the other — like, CDE,DEF, EFG, etc. — singing "Beautiful, wonderful, beautiful, wonderful ..." This one is fun.

Be careful not to begin too low or sing too high on your first day of practice though; your voice is begotten from a muscle just like any other.

If you need your voice to clear up quickly however, mixing one part cayenne pepper with two parts water will help strip your vocal chords of the flem that restrict your range. It won't make up for not practicing, but it's certainly better than nothing. It's like brushing but not flossing.

Good luck, and have fun!
