Now in my younger days I used to sport a shag
When I went to school I carried lunch in a bag
With an apple for my teacher 'cause I knew I'd get a kiss
Always got mad when the class was dismissed
But when it was in session, I always had a question
I would raise my hand to make her stagger to my desk and
help me with my problem, it was never much
Just a trick, to smell her scent and try to sneak a touch
Oh, how I wish I could hold her hand and give her a hug
She was married to the man, he was a thug,
His name was Lee, he drove a Z,
he'd pick her up from school promptly at three o'clock
I was on her jock, yes indeedy I wrote graffiti on the bus
First I'd write her name then carve a plus,
with my name last, on the looking glass,
I seen her yesterday but still I had to let her pass

Answers:

I do. Passin Me By is one of my favorite songs. I find it funny that someone has to have longevity per se to be good. What about things that are infamous and have longevity? If Nas, Jay-Z, Tupac or BIG never made it big, would they be bad because no one on a national or mainstream level knew them? I'm pretty sure that they would still be good. I find it funny that all the mainstream DJ's that are on air here in SD know that song and say it's better than most of the stuff being played nowadays.

But yes the Pharcyde was pretty influential. A group from LA that wasn't rapping about gangbangin in a time when gangbangin was prevalent. Along with the Heiroglyphics, the Pharcyde showed that Cali rap wasn't all about street pushing and bustin people up. It's too bad the Pharcyde is only 2 of the original 4. Fat Lip and Tre Hardson are doing their own thing nowadays. Yo Momma got a glass eye with a fish in it.
