Ebonics/Hip Hop/Urban slang question. 7:30 and gats?
I know that if someone is 7:30 , then they are crazy. Where did the term 7:30 come from? Who used it first? I hear this a lot around Atlanta.
Also, why are guns called gats? I know its slang, but what does it come from? Who said gats first? Is it from another word that has been urban-a-fied?
I am not trying to be offensive, I just want to know.

The slang 7:30 started and was used for inmates who were incarcerated on Rikers Island in N.Y.C. -- "7:30" was called to the inmates who had and/or was experiencing some type of mental issues. If the inmate got out of hand they were given a drug name "THORAZINE" to calm them down. The time this medicine was distributed to these inmates---7:30. That slang started about 30 years ago, years before "Big L' used it. He probably used it alot bacause it originated from N.Y.C.
Will C &AJ are correct: the slang "GATS" is just a shorter name for the Gatling Gun. I don't know who started using this slang first.
