Question:

I lost my voice when I got sick a couple of weeks ago, I can talk, but my singing isn't the same. HELP!!!!!!!!

I've been singing for a long time, but ever since I got sick and lost my voice, it just hasnt been the same [almost a week and a half] Is there any way that I can possibly get my voice back? Please help!

I mean, even the easiest songs just don't sound the same when I sing them. =[

Please let me know if there is anything I can do to fix this.

Answers:

I'm glad to hear that your voice is back - if you'd been without one for more than two weeks, then it's time to see an ENT.

Typically, in cases like yours, medical professionals suggest rest. The less you use your voice, the better it will become in a shorter period of time. The period of rest depends on the individual; use your best judgment, and decide when it's time to sing again based on how you feel. You know your instrument best.

Keep in mind that, even after your sickness has abated, it might take several weeks to be up to par again. Have patience. Don't push it. The worst thing you can do to a set of vocal chords that are already swollen is to exacerbate the swelling with unnecessary singing or speaking. Some of the best singers I know have gone literally weeks without saying more than a few sentences a day, if necessary to their recuperation.
