Question on guitar parts, what does what?

Ok, here is the guitar I want http://www.samash.com/catalog/showitem.a...

What are the 3 coil pickups, what's the 5 way switching and the non-tremolo hardtail.

I'm getting this as my first guitar, and I plan on learning how to play, I'm looking at similar ones on ebay and other places and I just want to be sure when I check those out that I know what these things are

Answers:

Ok, first - the 3 single coil pickups are properly called transducers, but commonly known as "pickups" because they essentially pick-up the sound from the strings as you strum and play. There are 3 of them because that gives you different sounding options - THAT is where the 5 way switch comes into play. The switch is for selecting each one of these pickups to use , or various combinations as follows:

Position 1 (all the way back) - rear pickup only
2 - rear and middle
3 - middle only
4 - middle and front
5- (all the way forward) - front only

When you get the guitar and start playing it and using the switch, you'll understand what the sounds are. The fixed hardtail bridge is simply a stationary fixed bridge that doesn't rock back and forth like a "Whammy bar" equipped bridge. Hope this helps.
