The title "Cloverfield"; initially just a codename for the movie, is named for the boulevard in Santa Monica where the Bad Robot offices were located during the making of the film!.

i thought it was okay movie!. it's called cloverfield because that's a street outside the production studio where they put this thing together!. they had that as the production name so people couldn't really put teasers or anything together and then they couldn't think of anything more clever and just went with it as a pentagon operation name!. that's what i've heard anyway!. this link has differing opinions though!.

Dude, this was the most anticipating film for me at my opinion, it was a whole new way to watch a movie, and honestly, tell me it did not look like they really filmed a monster in Manhattan!.!.!. c'mon seriously!? lol and btw Cloverfield is military code name for boulevard in Santa Monica or what everyone says; Central Park because as you know it destroys the entire city leaving nothing behind and the camera is found in central park damaged while a another person after the tragic accident picks it up, lol its funny because I read the manga before the movie and hard to believe!.!.!. it was just a baby looking for its mother because in the movie a satellite hits the ocean in Coney island at the end when the show Rob and Beth in the wonder wheel and it awakes him up after thousands of years to see she isn't there with it!. funny huh!? lol its true to, J!.J Abrams the director said it!.
