Any Shallow Hal fans know this?!

Question: Any Shallow Hal fans know this!?
Is it a plot problem that Hal's best friend, played by Jason Alexander, didn't change appearance!.!.!.!.Hal was supposed to see everyone as they really are, for the beauty within, and Jason's character had none, yet remained the same in appearance!.!.!.!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Answers:
no plot problem -

Robbins helps Hal by hypnotizing him to see people only as the person they really are on the inside, not how they appear on the exterior!.!.!.!.

Mauricio (Jason Alexander) is *also* shallow - therefore, after Hal was hypnotized, he saw Mauricio as being *the same* as he was before being hypnotized - which is, *shallow*!.!.!.!.thus, no change in appearance!.

EDIT: i also disagree with a plot problem on Walt (the character with spina bifida)!.!.!.!.i believe that the reason Walt didn't change in appearance after Hal was hypnotized is because Hal didn't ever view Walt's disability as "ugly"!.!.!.

plus, think about it - the character who played Walt *actually has* spina bifida - if they'd changed his look, it would have outraged many audience members with similar physical deformities!.

unfortunately, however, i guess the writers didn't give a crap about what obese people might think at all!.

DOUBLE EDIT: Hal's neighbor (Jill) doesn't change in appearance, because she already looked "sexy" to Hal before he was hypnotized!.!.!.plus, she wasn't ugly on the inside - in fact, she dumped Hal after just one date, due to him being so shallow!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

If his character HAD indeed changed in appearance, there would have not been a plot!. Hal would have known that he had this new ability and would then have been afraid to go out and meet new people for fear that he would never really see what they look like on the outside!. Since he already was aquainted with the characters in his life, their appearances did not change because that is the way that HE saw them prior to his "coaching" session!. If he had been so shallow to begin with, he would have never become good friends with his buddy!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

hhmm, didn't notice that
i was going to say he could only see the beauty in women instead of men but the 2guys who Gewn worked with (the howian and the other) he saw them differently !.!. it isnt a women thing

but thinking about that film it is very prejudice against people who are attractive!!

they make it seem that everyone who was good looking was evil and had no feelings towards anyone except themselves and everyone who was overweight or genuinely unattractive was beautiful inside!.
that is a very large misconception on how it truly is

haha!.!. just thought i would air thatWww@Enter-QA@Com

There was a few people that didn't change: his friend, the handicapped guy, his neighbour that he had had feelings for!. The "gift" basically was supposed to help him when he met new people to see what was inside!. He already knew these people and had a certain perception of them!. So that is why whenever he met any of the women, or the few men he met after they changed and no one he previously knew did!. Www@Enter-QA@Com

Actually it did work on men, remember Gwyneth paltrow's character had two friends from the Peace Corps!? when Hal was under the spell-thingy, they were handsome dudes, but when the spell was undone, they were!.!.!."less-conventional" looking!. So therfore Jason Alexanders Character had no inner beauty!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

maybe it's because he's already friends with him and you don't "judge" a friend as you do others!? That's a good point!.!.!.!.but remember Jason did have a flaw-he had a little tail right!?!.!.or was that Hal!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

You know I actually thought of the same thing, but I figured that since he already knew him that is why he didn't!. But he actually did change at the end to a nice guy!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

You do bring up a good point, I never even thought of that, but the handicapped guy also didn't change!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

he didn't have any beauty within so stayed uglyWww@Enter-QA@Com

He was only supposed to see that in women, not men!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
