Question: Question About the Movie Jacob's Ladder (Spoiler)!?
Okay, I saw Jacob's Ladder the other day!. Last time I saw it was about 15 years ago!. I'm trying to figure out the ending!. So, Jacob actually died in Vietnam but was trapped in some kind of hell!? And what did his dead son have to do with it!? And was Danny Aiello (sp) actually an angel like Jacob said!? Any insight would be helpful!. Thanx!!Www@Enter-QA@Com

One of my favorites!.
OK, Jacob is killed in Vietnam!. As he lies dying, he remembers the life he leaves behind (his wife and 3 sons)!. But most of the film takes place in his imagination -- things that never happened, like his life with Jezzie and his search for answers with his war buddies!. The Army's alleged experimentation with LSD heightens these terrifying visions!. Jezzie is the angel of death; sometimes she seems angelic, sometimes downright evil!. His chiropractor Louis (Danny Aiello) is his spiritual guide, and the key to understanding the film is something Louis says: "If you're frightened of dying, and you're hanging on, you'll see demons tearing your life apart!." In order to die peacefully, Jacob needs to come to terms with the tragic death of his youngest son!. He needs to "let go!." Once he makes his peace with that, the demons vanish and he is able to journey to heaven!. His soul is freed from torment!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

It's been a while since I've seen it, but here goes my interpretation!.!.!. Jacob was in the process of dying in Vietnam!. However, he was flashing forward to what his life would have been like!. His visions are overshadowed by good and evil imagery!. I'm not clear on whether they are his own hallucinations as he fights to stay alive or whether they are actual good and evil entities fighting for his soul!. My guess is the earlier, and Aiello is an angel trying to guide him to the light!. At the end his son is the one who guides him up the stairs (Jacob's Ladder) to heaven!. Www@Enter-QA@Com
