Hoffman is still alive, and at the end of Saw 5 it becomes clear he is working together with John's (Jigsaw's) ex-wife (she tells Strahm's boss that he is following her, while he isn't)!. Who will be investigating them I don't know, since Strahm's boss is not too bright, Erickson (Strahm's replacement) will probably continue the hunt!. And Jigsaw will be present in flash-backs of course, and he will probably have thought up some more traps, as will Hoffman!.

SAW 6 will be released October 30, 2009!. Tobin Bell will continue his role as "Jigsaw John"!. Costas Mandylor will continue as "Hoffman"!. (in honor of Producer, Gregg Hoffman who died suddenly two months after the release of SAW 2)!.
To continue the cliffhanger, Mark Rolston as "Erickson" will have to be in SAW 6 as well as Betsy Russell with the box!. Julie Benz as "Brit"!. Survived her trap and we don't know about Greg Mallick as "Mallick" yet if he survived!.
I would love to see Mike Realba as "Detective Fisk" get into the action!.
Hoffman is not dead!. That glass coffin was his get-away!.

There have been very reliable rumors about Jill (the wife) and some not-so-reliable rumors about the girl that survived with her arm sliced in half!.
Personally, I think that in addition to the above-mentioned, there will be a new character introduced, that's on Jigsaw's side!.

Who says both detectives die!? Detective Hoffman is most likely still alive!. Remember the message to save your life get in the box, well the box went into the floor and who knows where it went after that!. There is nothing ensuring that was his grave!. Plus with the escapes that others have made in the past I'd say it's probably safe to assume that he somehow gets out alive!.
