Star Wars - General Grevious Question?!

Question: Star Wars - General Grevious Question!?
I'm not much a fan of Star Wars, so please excuse my ignorance!. I was watching one of the Star Wars movies with my son and one of the evil characters was a robot called General Grievous!.

My question is this - How and why is he coughing!? Is it a glitch in his programming!? What's his story!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

Don't you just love people who answer with cut & paste info from some website!. Most of it is right but anybody can cut & paste, in addition much of the info at the Star Wars "Wiki" sites is tainted by false claims but anyways!.

General Grievous isn't a robot !.!.!. he is a cyborg like Darth Vader becomes although Grievous is much more machine than he is man!. His head and skull are organic covered by the mask he wears, if you look close they make a big point of zooming in on his eyes many times to show that there is something "alive" in there!. Other than that, behind his chest plate is a "organic sac" that contains what is left of his other organs!.

Before the animated movie and TV series that came this year the answer would indeed have been that in the last chapter of the Clone Wars micro-series that aired on the Cartoon Network in 2003 & 2004 during the run up to the release of ep III Jedi Master Mace Windu does use the Force in an attempt to crush Grievous!. It kind of worked!. That was alway the reason given for his coughing!.

Now with the new movie and TV show we see Grievous coughing also, not nearly as much or as bad but still coughing on occasion!. The reason given for this is a "glitch" in the pairing of his organic and electrical "parts"!.

So, while the main reason for his "coughing" IS because of Mace trying to crush him with the Force the "answer" has more to it now because of the new movie and series!.

As for his "life story" so to speak, the cut and paste answers from Wiki are pretty factual in regards to the story!.

He's not a robot, he's a cyborg - which means part machine and part organic!.

Watch closely and you'll see organic eyes in his face mask and organs under his chest plate that Obi-Wan goes after!.

His story!? He was a war general on his planet and an excellent tactician!. The Separatists engineered an accident so he'd need to be made into a cyborg to survive and serve Count Dooku and Darth Sidious!.

His cough!? Well, originally the first Clone Wars series included an encounter between Grievous and Mace Windu that explained his cough - Windu attempted to stop Grievous by using the Force to crush his torso during the abduction of Chancellor Palpatine!. That occurred in the final episode which takes place shortly before the opening of Revenge of the Sith!.

However, it has been revealed that the character will also have a cough in the new Clone Wars series being produced and aired now - and those episodes take place before the encounter with Mace Windu!. So it has yet to come to light what the exact reasoning is!. It might merely be a byproduct of his becoming a cyborg!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

He is supposed to be like Darth Vader a General Sith that was injured and was put on life support!. The technology was not good enough so he is living with the side effects from it!. Like Darth Vaders Respirator is audible, his malfunctions and causes him to choke!. But basically all that's left of him is his head, lungs, and parts of his internal organs!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

the above answer is incorrect!. He was already a cyborg and during the Clone Wars cartoon (that took place right before Revenge of the Sith) his chest was crushed by Mace Windu in battle!.
also he was never a Sith but recieved lightsaber training from Count Dooku!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

He is coughing, because in the old star wars series: The Clone Wars on Cartoon Network, Mace Windu used a 'force choke' on him before he had time to flee into his ship!. The choke crushed his inside organs, causing the cough!.

Hope I answered your question properly!

During the Battle of Coruscant, Jedi Master Mace Windu uses the Force to crush the general's chest plates, severely weakening him!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Because during the clone wars mini series on cartoon network, Mace Windu crushes his chest making him cough like that!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Not into Star Wars, sorry!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

General Grevious was actually a fighter for the Republic and was injured after an attack by the Rebels, similar to Darth Vader, he is able to survive through the robotic parts that aid him!. He is actually half alien half machine!. Here is some info from Wikipedia where you can find more info on him and other Star Wars characters: http://en!.wikipedia!.org/wiki/General_Gre!.!.!.

The rest of his backstory is supplied in James Luceno's novel Labyrinth of Evil!. During the war with the rival Huk, the Republic is called in to settle the dispute!. Because the Huk world is rich in natural resources compared to the barren Kalee world, the Republic sides with Huk and sends several Jedi Knights to intervene on their behalf!. Grievous and his armies are made to appear as the aggressors and their homeworld is left in ruins!.

Grievous becomes a security chief for the Intergalactic Banking Clan!. San Hill, leader of the clan, notices Grievous' strategic genius, fearlessness, and skills!. He is mentioned to the Confederacy of Independent Systems leader, Count Dooku!. Led by Darth Sidious, the Sith Lords conspire to draw Grievous into the Separatist army!. Despite Hill's generous offers Grievous refuses to lead the Separatist army!.

During an attack by the Republic's armies on the clan's base, Grievous' shuttle, with a bomb already attached, explodes and crashes!. Grievous is mortally wounded in the crash, kept alive by technology, a transfusion of blood from the deceased Jedi Master Sifo-Dyas, and Dooku's mastery of the dark side; his shattered body is taken to the planet Geonosis, where most of it is replaced with a droid body that complements his natural reflexes!. Hill approaches him and offers him the chance to live again in a cybernetic body and lead the Separatist army!. Grievous initially resists — he would much rather die a warrior's death than watch his body sustained by technology — but Hill eventually persuades him by appealing to his desire for revenge!. In actuality, this was Hill's plan all along, as the Separatists had booby trapped Grievous' shuttle themselves, meaning to leave the General with no other choice than to accept!. Dooku then trains him in lightsaber combat until he is one of the best duelists in the galaxy, and whips his resentment of the Jedi into a frenzy!. The metamorphosis is then completed leaving Grievous one of the most fearsome warriors of the Separatists' army!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
