I'm not big into online tickets, but they work, and you'll have to check your local theater to see if they sell advance tickets!. If you know someone who works at the theater, you can ask and see if they can hold one for you!.
You can always do the ol' stand in a really long line on opening day thing, that normally works!.
also, when the window says that a movie is sold out, there are typically a few open seats!. They have to keep a few seats in reserve for handicapped people, and for children young enough they get in free!. What you can do is ask for one of those tickets!. However, if you go in a big group, you're not guaranteed seats next to each other!.
