Question: Are you tired of movies saying they are based on a true story!?
And it's like 1% or less actually "true"!?
Like well, the guy bought a bagel and then raped 50 people!.!.!. well, he really did in-fact buy that bagel!.
Or the fact they completely change people's biographers!?
Frank Lucas was a good example- in the movie he went to jail and his wife went back to her family- but in real life he pretty much sold out his whole family!. His wife went to prison and served time, which I think is a good lesson for people!. Women think they won't get in trouble if their husband is doing something illegal and their not!. I was disturbed to see it taken out and repainted in a "nice" light!.

Frank Lucas is a piece of crap who destroyed an entire community with drugs!. American Gangster was just another stupid movie made to make being a bad guy "cool" or acceptable!. Which it's not!.
But its true what the girl before me said!. Your confusing based and inspired!. Either way you look at it, its not going to be 100 percent accurate if its a movie!. Because its not a documentary!. When a movie is based on something like John Gotti or something, they'll try to get all the people name's right, and throw in some situations that actually happend!. When a movie is inspired by something, its like the writer/director had a dream or something and it inspired the story!. The strangers was inspired by the writers child hood, something that happend to him as a kid, and the killings were inspired by the manson murders!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I really like movies and if they are based on a true story well then even better!. It's like Twister!. There are actual people who do what Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton were doing, chasing tornadoes!. So that movie is inspired by true events!. Then the movie Selena with Jennifer Lopez, that's based on a true story but of course you can't write the dialogues exactly the way they were!. JFK is another one based on true events but it's what Oliver Stone thinks could have happened!. That movie changed my way of thinking about the Kennedy assasination and the whole CIA / Lyndon Johnson stuff!. Www@Enter-QA@Com
I'll agree with DEVIL on this one, based on a true story or inspired by true events are two different things!. And they can be both good and bad, in each kind of movie!. There are a lot absolutely terrific movies that were inspired by a true story, but I'll agree that they all start sounding the same!. And then again - the real depiction of events may be too depressing for some people to watch!. And movies need to be sold!. So they need to include some things that might not have happened!. You mistake "Based" for "Inspired" which is totally different!. If I made a movie about spiders, I could say that I was inspired by seeing a spider crawling on the wall!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

No it really bothers me as well!. Almost as much as the hundreds of remakes they keep churning out every 10 minutes!. As for people saying you are confusing "inspired" with "based" I have seen some films that said BASED and clearly were not based on anything, so sometimes I think that it's the film makers that are confused not the viewer, or they just don't care because they want people to believe their crap!. It's getting to the point now, for me anyway, that when I see any trailer that says "based or inspired" by a true story I don't want to see that movie!. I'd like to see a trailer that said "totally original writing by so and so' instead!.
