Question for Non-U.S. Movie Goers?!

Question: Question for Non-U!.S!. Movie Goers!?
This might sound dumb, but I've always been curious!. In every country in the world, any movie that wasn't made in your country is labeled a "foreign film"!.

So let's say you're reading this in Egypt!. Are Amercian movies also lumped into the "foreign films" category!?

From my perspective, it's just weird to think of someone calling our movies foreign!.!.!.even though I Know they are outside of the US!. lol!

Hope that makes sense! :)

& mention what country you're writing from

Nice question, and not dumb at all!.
Im from Israel, and when you think about it, any movie that isn't made in your country should be called foreign right!?
Yet, I've never heard anyone referring to American films as foreign films, more like a Hollywood film if you like!.!.!.
Foreign films are referred to films usually from Europe (when i think about it, I cant remember movies from UK being called foreign as well, that makes you think it has something to do with the language maybe!.!.!.) or other parts of the globe (excluding USA and maybe other English speaking countries such as UK, Australia, Canada, e!.t!.c!.)!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Umm well, it's hard to say, we don't label anything here in Egypt really!. You have Arabic movies and English movies, we don't get movies in any other languages, and American/British movies aren't exactly 'foreign' anymore!. But I guess, yes, you'd say they're foreign films, but it's not quite the same concept as foreign films in America or the UK!. In Egypt, we don't get movies from any other part of the world (Other than Britain & America)

I'm from!.!. EGYPT, if you didn't already guess :) HahaWww@Enter-QA@Com

I'm from Australia and as a public, we generally don't view a film as 'foreign' unless it is from a country whose predominant language is not English!. E!.g!. a movie from America or England is not generally seen as foreign, whereas a movie from France or Italy is!. I'm not sure how it works in actual classifications though!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Being from England, i've never heard or seen an American film labelled as "foreign"!. I think it only applies to foreign language films, ie non English!. Having said that, i think The Passion Of The Christ and Apocalypto might be considered as foreign films even though both were made by an American production company!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Hi Fonzie :)

In Britain, all American films are just classed as mainstream films!.

I *think* big Australian and Canadian ones are too, but the small indie films would possibly be regarded as 'foreign'!.

For the most part though, they tend to only seperate out *foreign language* films ~ such as those in French or German!.

They don't really categorise them that much here!.!.!. Www@Enter-QA@Com

I am from Rep!. of Ireland and American films are not labeled as foreign films, probably because that is were the majority of films come from!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I'm British and US films aren't called "foreign films" but anywhere outside of the UK and US are!. Interesting q, never thought about that before!. XDWww@Enter-QA@Com

Same as G C , US films are just 'films'!. Not foreign films!. I don't think the US would take it very kindly being called foreigners!. :P
