Do you think Film Directors should be able to "George Lucas "their old!

Question: Do you think Film Directors should be able to "George Lucas "their old movies!?
George Lucas got a lot of flack for adding cgi elements to the original Star Wars trilogy!. Steven got more flack for removing guns from the hands of Fbi agents in a E!.t!.

Do you think a filmmaker has the right to go into there own work and
rework it years lateR!?

If so what movies could us some Fx touch up!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

Answers:
I think it depends on the film!. With the "Star Wars" movies, Lucas had said his idea was above the technology of the time (if the tech existed the added graphics would have been added)!. I did think it was ridiculous to remove the guns from the FBI agents in E!.T!.
If the filmmaker has the rights to the film (or if it the studio) it is up to them and we have to deal with their choices!.
As for what movies could use FX touch up-most of the scifi from early to mid 80's!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I think it's kind of silly, personally!. I haven't seen any films that have been changed that way where it really made that much of a difference in the overall quality of the film!.

Reediting it to make it more like the director's original vision (like Orson Wells's 'Touch Of Evil') makes more sense to me because that can make a real difference in the feel of the film!. Www@Enter-QA@Com

I believe they ARE able (with today's technology) and ARE NOT prohibited from doing so except by the almighty dollar, If they "George Lucas" their old movies and make no money, they'll stop!.
This is not new ground, you know!. Ted Turner bought up all those old movies to fill time on TBS and then "colorized" them to mixed reviews!.
The beautiful thing is that the ORIGINALS are still available!. Peace!. Www@Enter-QA@Com

do they have the right!? absolutely, if it's their intellectual property and they own it they have the right!.

but at the same time they need to realize there's something special about that original cut!. there was something about it when it was made that people love so you're risking angering your fans by changing a classic!. Www@Enter-QA@Com

If they own the right to the movie then they have the right to do whatever they want!. I wish a lot of directors would go back in and use technology to erase their whole rotten movie and then refund me my ticket price!. Now that would be art!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Yes, it is their right as it is their art work!. E!.T!. does not become a part ownership of the public just because he released it to theaters and videos!. It sucks but they can do what they want as they work for themselves not us!. Www@Enter-QA@Com

Tolstoy can't go back and rework War and Peace and I don't think that movie directors should do it either!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I don't see why not!. If the fans don't like the alternate version, then they have no obligation to buy that version!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
