You are trying to find symbolism in a crappy remake!? Good luck!. My advice is to just forget about it, and go get copies of the original movie and the books by Koji Suzuki--Ring, Spiral, and Loop!.
There is indeed a lot of symbolism behind the name, a lot of which I won't go into because it would give away some major plot points-- in the books more than the movie, but still!.!.!. At it's most basic 'Ring' refers to the cycle of events, growing outward from the source in never ending waves, like a stone dropped into the water!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

The original title was in Japanese!. When it became a US film production, the producer did not have enough funds to hire an interpreter!.!.!. so they got a dude that does alterations to do a translation of the original title!. Dude has no idea what it is, so he made something up when he looked at his finger!. LoL!!!
