Scary movies actually fall into a number of sub-genres!. You might like the Japanese-inspired movies like Ring that concentrate on lost or vengeful souls!. Or possession movies like the Exorcist!. There are a large number of "slasher" films which tend to be more gore than fright!. My all-time favorite is John Carpenter's "The Thing" (a sci-fi thriller like Alien) which has an extraordinary opening: a dog running across the antarctic with a helicopter chasing it, trying to shoot it!. It sets up the whole scenario of the movie, and has one particular scene where, no matter how many times you see it, makes you jump!Www@Enter-QA@Com

my recent favorite scary movie is 1408,
other ones that are worth a look are:
-the newest texas chainsaw massacre
-dawn of the dead or 28 days later
-the blair witch project

oh and stay away from the Saw series, they are not scary!. they only focus on disgusting you with gore and torture!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

alot of people say the exorcist is the scariest of all time but I don't think it's not scary but I'm really not scared of anything so don't take my advice and try the exorcist :)Www@Enter-QA@Com

If you want really scary movies, get Japanese horror movies!.!.!. they are better than hollywood "adaptation" or "remakes" - like the Ring series, Grudge, etc!.

Start right at the top and watch Silent Hill!.
After that all scary movies will be like normal movies!. Nothing compares to Silent Hill!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

In my opinion i would start with The Shining because its not too scary and it will get you started!. Then move onto the Saw series!. 1&2&3&4!. 5 is coming out soon!!Www@Enter-QA@Com
