A question about The Shawshank Redemption...?!

Question: A question about The Shawshank Redemption!.!.!.!?
When Andy broke free from prison how did he manage to put the poster, which covers his escape route, so neatly back on the wall!? He could not have done this from inside the hole and he didn't have any cellmates to help him! Www@Enter-QA@Com

Everyone said the same thing, but there's another problem!. Watch the scene when the Warden, Red and the others are in the cell, and the warden gets angry and starts throwing the stone chess pieces around the cell!.

He throws one at the poster, and it makes a hole right in the center, like a bullet!. When he realizes this, he reaches his hand through the small home and pulls the poster down from the wall from "behind" (after he punches his hand through it!.

Now, here's my addition to the original question: if he threw that stone object (which was not that small or light) through the poster, and the poster wasn't attached at the bottom, wouldn't the unattached part of the poster move *away* from the wall when he hit it with the chess piece!? (Like opening a flap)!.

And when he pulled it down, wouldn't they have see the bottom was "loose"!? And would the poster have been "tight" enough attached just at the top to make that original hole and for him to push his hand through it!?

Everything that happened in that scene would lead the viewer to believe that the poster was attached at the bottom as well as the top!.

The only way this *might* work would be if he placed some tape in the middle of lower edge of the poster before he climbed into the tunnel!. Then, as he crawled in, he could reach back through one of the corners and press the tape along the bottom edge to make it stay!.

Now, this leads to one *other* problem: Watch the scene when you see the characters looking into the tunnel!. Look at him near the end when he's making his way out!. How could he possibly climb into that narrow hole -- HEAD FIRST -- then turn around and somehow press the bottom of the poster in place!? Then turn back around and crawl head first down that narrow tunnel!?

This is a great picture, but it demonstrates pretty clearly what happens when the continuity editor isn't paying attention to detail!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

The poster was rolled back to front so the bottom of the poster doesnt roll up!.After all the movie is about a very intelligent guy who gets sent to prison for a crime he didnt commit and he's so clever he outsmarts everybody inside the prison!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I'd say the big plot hole is weather he did it or not!. People who like the character say no people who don't say yes people who just enjoyed the movie for what it was say That's not the point!.

I say He did it!. That would be more dramatic!. Www@Enter-QA@Com

I thought of that when I watched it and came to the conclusion that it was tacked only in the top 2 corners and the bottom was just left, so he pulled it up to get through and then let it fall back into place!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Kind of open and shut answer, everyone has the gist!.!.!. It was held in place by tape or thumbtacks on the two top corners and when he got through it fell right back into place!.!.!.

That was a good question though I never thought about it before!Www@Enter-QA@Com

Wasn't it just attached to the wall at the top!? If it was then he could have just lifted it up to get in the hole!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

watch the part when he was behind the poster and digging at the wall

the poster was only taped up at the top

so he went through the tunnel, and the poster just draped backed down

Www@Enter-QA@Com

Yeah, I've thought about that too!.

My guess is that it was taped to the wall only at the top so that it could be pulled up easily to work on the escape route!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

yea it was just stuck at the top!.!.!.because when they show flash backs to him digging the hole he is actually between the poster and the wall diggingWww@Enter-QA@Com

put the top of the poster up then got in the hole and pullet the bottom down!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I don't think it is connected to the wall at the bottom of the poster!.!.!.only at the top!.!.!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

doh!.!.!. it was fixed at the top!.!.!. and simply rolld down AFTER he entered the tunnel;!.!.!.

Ex con, who doesnt let reality get in the way of a damn good film!.!. Www@Enter-QA@Com

I would go with Stumi's answer, just held on top two cornersWww@Enter-QA@Com

ye what stumiroquai said!Www@Enter-QA@Com

yes it was just tapped at the top so just dropped down when he went throWww@Enter-QA@Com

good question, I never thought of that!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

As some people said, it was taped on on the top 2 corners, and as you added in your question, then the stone that he threw would not go through the poster, unless he threw it as fast as a bullet!.
Though, Andy could have taken 2 pieces of cello tape roll each one of them to an orb/circle thing, with the gluey side turning outside, then attach each tape to the lower 2 corners on the BACK of the poster, then when he was at the beginning of the tunnel, he could easily make the poster stick to the wall!.

The plot hole is actually after that, the tunnel was so narrow, Andy couldn't possibly go in backwards, tape the poster, and then turn 180 with his head forward (like we see in the scene where Andy is crowling his way)!.!.!. thats the plot hole!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
