Its July 17th and it was changed to that date because they thought it would make more money in the summer time just like Dark Knight!. It had nothing to do with Twilight which was the buzz that was going around the internet!. They also said that parents are much more likelier to take there kids to see a movie in the summer time rather than the fall when school is going on!. Www@Enter-QA@Com

It was originally planned for this month, November, but WB claims that the company is still suffering from the WGA strike, and therefore moved the movie to a summer time slot, to fill the necessary spot of a major "tent pole release"!. They drew from previous summer releases, where thy realized summer movies make more money than winter!. The video games and PC games have also been pushed to summer!.
I'm not buying it!. Even if HP fans were too busy with school to go see the movie in theaters, the movie would have eventually gotten the same amount of money through DVD sales!. Plus, they had major success with Dark Knight!. They just want the extra money!. I can't say I blame them, but I wish they would be honest!.

Additionally, like every other studio, we are still feeling the repercussions of the writers’ strike, which impacted the readiness of scripts for other films—changing the competitive landscape for 2009 and offering new windows of opportunity that we wanted to take advantage of!. We agreed the best strategy was to move ‘Half-Blood Prince’ to July, where it perfectly fills the gap for a major tent pole release for mid-summer!.”
I doubt that HP suffered competition from Twilight, as HP has a wider target range than Twilight, and I'm sure any Twilight fan that would forgo watching HP for Twilight, or vice versa, would eventually watch the other!.
