What is this 'asian' movie?!

The movie is about four children (a older girl and boy and a young boy and even younger girl) who basically have to look out for themselves in an apartment all alone after their mother abandons them promising to "come back soon"!. The whole movie was in subtitles because of the language, I'm thinking Japanese!? But I'm not going to bet my life on it!. Anybody know!? It ends with the older boy and his female friend sitting in a field!.!.!. Lol!. I don't know what other details to give!.
