Name of Italian movie from the 80s? ?!

I think it's Italian (could be French)as in subtitled!.!.!.A man takes his family out to the country for their summer holiday, to a rundown villa somewhere on a hill or cliff side ! Not everyone in the family is happy about traipsing along with their gear from the train/bus station!. Part of their journey involves them crossing some neighbouring property which they are not welcome to do!. Year after year they do this holiday thing and as the family grows older they appreciate it more!.!.!.the end (i think) the father and the property owner finally meet and make amends!?!?
