Yes Titanic was a real ship that sunk in the Atlantic on April 14, 1912 !. 1517 people died!.almost 100 years ago!. Halifax Nova Scotia was the nearest port where a lot of the dead were brought for identification and also burial!. There are several cemetaries there!. One is Jewish, another Catholic, etc!. There is a grave in one of the cemetaries with the name Jack Dawson on it!. Director Cameron tried to be very authentic with this film as possible!. The story line is supposed to be fictitous!. I saw a documentary which is not fictitious at the Museum of Science of Industry in Chicago!. Cameron got a lot of ideas also from this film!. So your answer is the film is partly fact and the characters themselves are the imagination of the director!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
