It sounds like the movie Rudy, made in 1993, which is based on a true story!. In it, he tries to get on with the Notre Dame football team, but can't get acecpted to the school so he takes up a part time job working with the groundskeeper of the stadium!. Eventually, during his senior year, he is accepted to Notre Dame, and joins the football team, but they coaches will not let him play!. Finally, during the last game of the season, the coach lets him play for a single play and he becomes a school hero!.
