Question: Why am I so moved by the film Atonement!?
Everytime I think if the film, I feel breathless!.!. it was so painful for me to watch!.
Has anyone else had this reaction to this film or to another!?

I think it's a combination of things!. The production itself is so spectacular, especially the war scenes and when Robbie sees all of those people on the beaches in France!. That's enough to take someone's breath away!. Plus, there are a lot of painful elements to that film - class issues, statutory rape, false imprisonment, war, illnesses, and all sorts of other hardships!. It's not an easy film to watch!.
I think the movie that was the most painful for me to watch (and it just happens to be another James McAvoy movie) was "The Last King of Scotland!." Knowing that there really was a dictator like this not long before I was born and that he was responsible for so much torture and death was horrendously difficult to see!.
