Why don't I understand movies and novels?!

Question: Why don't I understand movies and novels!?
I am reasonably intelligent person!. But I find it almost impossible to follow the story line of novels and movies!. Someone told me it could be something to do with being a serious person since I am more interested in documentaries than fiction!. But it annoys me that when I watch a movie with friends I just can't follow what is going on!. I am also a shy person and sometimes find it hard to concentrate!. Is there any way of remedying this problem!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Answers:
I am intelligent too - great IQ, etc!. have a double college degree with a great GPA!.!.!.

I was shy!. I read a LOT in high school and earlier, but I would still miss out on a lot of what you're talking about!. Makes you feel thick, doesn't it!?

It's not your intelligence, but how your intelligence is directed!.

This is kind of deep, but it's what I found out with myself:
It's just a lack of understanding of social situations because a lot of your current social situations are shallow so you get disinterested!. Movies have a lot of shallow situations, so people like you and I who only crave the deeper conversations get lost in movies and books when they pop those shallow conversations on us!. I think you'll do better when you get in more adult company, where deeper subjects are more often discussed!. You're a deeper person than most!. You probably like to think things through more or worry things more - all linked to your shyness, which really isn't shyness so much as a stronger concern about what you say and how you say it!. I daresay you're not shy when you are in your element, aka talking about something you know well, such as a recent documentary watched or a subject in school you're good at!.

People like you and I can learn to get past this - I got better at catching the plot line the older I got, but even in college I struggled with my habit of turning off my attention when petty stuff came up!.

Not that it stopped me - English was my only "B" class but I was interested in it despite my thickness with plots and situational understanding!. So I got an English lit degree in addition to my technical communications degree!. Nothing like practice to help you get better at these things!Www@Enter-QA@Com

It could just be that fiction in general does not interest you!. I wouldn't worry too much about it!.!.!.!.obviously documentaries and other "Real world" pieces of entertainment might be more for you! Www@Enter-QA@Com
