I agree with Joe Ananimity to an extent!. I would suggest you try Asian horror flicks!. They are a better bet than their Hollywood counterparts!.

These are my picks:

Tale of Two Sisters: This is a cult Korean movie!. It's not just a mind numbing gory experience!. This one actually makes you think!.

Battle Royale: This is not a super-natural horror movie!. But it has the same effect!.

Das Experiment: Again not a supernatural thriller, but a brilliantly shocking movie!.

Shutter: Avoid the Hollywood version!. It is no match for the the original Thai movie!.

The Shining: This is a Kubrick masterpiece!. One of the finest horror movies of Hollywood!.

Gin Gwai: A decent watch

I would also suggest: The Others, The Omen, Nightmare on Elm Street

And since you're watching it with your girlfriends , I think you'd have more fun watching movies of the Comedy- Horror genre like Shaun of the Dead and the Scary Movie series!.

Hope you find this helpful!.

Some Asian horror!.!.!.

Try these:

Suicide Club
Ichi the Killer
The Ring/Ringu
Dumplings
Memories (animated, 3 part movie)
Ninja Scroll (animated, very graphic)
Akira (animated, soon to be made into major motion picture)

Some other foreign horror:

High Tension
City of Lost Children
Pan's Labyrinth (graphic)
Irreversible (very graphic, almost porn)

Or just some good old Americana:

Event Horizon
The Hills Have Eyes (the remake, but NOT 2)
Cube
Evil Dead (1, 2, or 3 (aka Army of Darkness))
Grind House (Terror Planet or Death Proof)
The Cell (don't let J-lo throw you off, it's really good)Www@Enter-QA@Com

I find it really hard to get creeped out by a scary movie nowadays!. As a kid I used to be scared by almost everything (I remember having nightmares after seeing Alien), but now, not so much!. I am so sick of the Japanese style horror movies (like The Ring, The Grudge, etc!.) although they do have a lot of jump out of your seat moments!.

Those can be exciting I guess, but I really like movies that creep me out without flashing something in my face or blaring the music or sound effects at a certain time!.

Sorry, I didn't help in actually recommending anything to get, but I do recommend not getting any of those Japanese horror style or the gory American torture type ones (like Hostel, which I liked, or Funny Games which I also kind of liked although neither is scary) if you want something truly creepy!. You did say that you wanted a movie for your GF though, so completely disregard what I said and get something that'll have her clinging to you the whole time!.

Oh, maybe you should just go with an oldie but goodie!. The Nightmare on Elm Street movies are scary, and Freddy is hilarious sometimes!. also, maybe one of the early Halloweens!? I saw the newest one (the one by Rob Zombie, who also directed the great movies House of 1000 Corpses and The Devil's Rejects) which I remember liking, but my memory sucks and it has been a while since I saw it!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

1!. Ringu - the original Japanese version of "The Ring"!. I can't even think about it too much or I have nightmares!.
2!. The Exorcism of Emily Rose - I freak out if I ever wake up around the 'witching hour'!.
3!. The Blair Witch Project - I know this film was way over hyped, but man that last scene freaked me out so much!.
4!. The Shining - maybe I should have put this higher up, but it is starting to look a bit dated!. However, the score is so well done and dramatic it gets the tension rising!.
5!. The Exorcist - another classic that you have to see to believe, the last act will keep you horribly rapt!.
6!. Audition - this film is nothing short of disturbing, maybe best never to go there, and probably not the nicest film to watch with your girlfriend!

I reckon either 'The Shining' or 'The Exorcist', great classic horrors!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
