are you talking about when the first book came out or the first movie!?
if it's the first book, it's mostly because they didn't make the first movie until the third book was already published and the fourth in major progress!.
if you mean the first movie until the last movie it's because they can't make each movie within a year of each other!. they usually put the movies out ever 1 and 1/2-2years because the actors need brakes and they want them to grow up a little for each different movie!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Money!. They can make more money if they put out one movie per year then if they put out a few movies each year!. With LOTR, the movies had been filmed simultaneously so could have been released one after the other or at the same time but the movie company wanted to make as much money with each movie so they staggered them one per year!. And they made a mint!. The current HP movie (HBP) has been delayed because of the recent writers' strike which put a lot of things behind schedule!. At one point I'd heard the HBP was being made into 2 movies because there was so much to cover but don't know if they still intend to put each part out one per year or, because of the delay this year, they will be releasing both parts next year!. If they don't hurry, the actors are going to be all grown and have kids of their own!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

It takes a long time to make a movie and get it ready to show if you want it to come out right!. also, each movie is a year apart like the books with the exception of the next one that will take 1 1/2 years!. The reason they are waiting as additional 6 months is because summer movies make more money!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
I think that its because all the actors have gotten enough fame to be able to get roles in other films!. Thats why its taking them a little longer becuase they have to wait until the others are done filming their otherstuff!.!.!.!. or maybe its just taking forever because they're doing a lot of graphics and stuffWww@Enter-QA@Com
