Lots of half right answers you've got !.!.!. the right part is he lost it in the duel with Vader in Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back!. The wrong part is when they say he lost it after Vader told him he was his father!. He lost it before that and it ended the duel !.!.!. then Vader told him that he was his father and asked Luke to help him defeat the Emperor!.
A little sidebar !.!.!. I've always thought that the Skywalker male members were destine to loose their right arms because of a insane curse put on them by someone!. Anakin looses his right hand to Dooku in ep II !.!.!. if you're not really into the books of Star Wars you wouldn't know that the duel between Vader and Luke in ep V was NOT their first duel!. In the book "Splinter Of The Minds Eye", set in between ep IV and ep V, in this book Luke and Vader go to blades against each other!. In that duel Luke ends up cutting off Vader's right arm!. Ironic don't you think!.
