A question for Donnie Darko lovers...?!

Question: A question for Donnie Darko lovers!.!.!.!?
I watched the movie years ago and can just about remember the plot, i loved it and thought the characters were chosen so well, but as i was only about 12 or something i didn't really understand it!. I just started thinking about it today, i want to watch it again and try to understand it but i think the thing that confuses me most is the whole time travel thing, and Frank, and how he's apparently apart of Donnie's imagination the whole time and yet at the end he's real!.!.!.does this mean he travelled back in time to warn Donnie about the fact that two people die on halloween and to try stop it!? An the end of the world!.!.what reason does the world have to end!?

im so confused aha, someone help and then i'll watch it again!
thanks!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Answers:
I had read somewhere in an essay that the movie was mostly confusing because the writers left out of the script how the time travel worked!. That's what confused me the most!. The movie isn't too hard to understand--and it looks like you have the plot right--but the meaning behind everything is the hardest to "get"!.

Here's the essay, if you're interested:

I really liked the movie, even though I didn't fully understand it!. You may be interested to know they're making a sequel, called "S!. Darko"!.

The story picks up seven years after the first film when little sister Samantha Darko and her best friend Corey are now 18 and on a roadtrip to Los Angeles when they are plagued by bizarre visionsWww@Enter-QA@Com

no you got it spot on! and at the end donnie let himself die so that his litle grilfriend could live (and the wierd bunny guy too )Www@Enter-QA@Com

I have to watch it again also!. But I do remember the concept of time travel was very hard to grasp!. The writers of the movie also wrote a fictional online book about time travel!. Maybe this will help you understand!.

The PDF file is the book about time travel!.

Philip K!. Dick writing has notable influence in Donnie Darko!. An concept in Lost and one of Dick's work reminds me of Donnie Darko's time travel!.

I bought Valis have not started it yet!. I find that reading books that are influence other movies/books give much insight to the other movies!. Valis might be something worth picking up!.

For example, in both Donnie Darko and Lost, there are some object that exist in both realities!. Once the character connects with the object in both realms, this creates a form of stability within the time rip!. The engine might have enter a time rip!. Making connection with that engine, Donnie Darko was able to close the rip!. If left open, it would have destroyed the world!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

yea i would have to say that when i first watched it, it confused the **** out of me!. i watched it a couple of more time 2 days in a row!. pretty much he escapes his destiny of dying when frank (the muniplated dead) comes to him in his dream and warns him about wat happens!. when hes referring to the end of the world hes talkin about donnies life ending, pretty much if u think about it, if ur life were to end it would be the end of the world!. so the story goes on the plane engine crashes through his roof into his room!. dodged his bullet!. he goes about meets gretchen!. changes his whole life all of a sudden hes not so lonely,"all living things on earth die alone"!. moral of the story the movie is pretty much a whole reoccurence of wat would have happened if he were to live through the accident!. he wouldnt have flooded the school, he wouldnt have meet gretchen, he wouldnt have burned down the house, he wouldnt have exposed the pervert, he wouldnt have sent his mom on the plane trip, cause ms!. farmer was obsessed with the pervert, they wouldnt have thrown a halloween party, frank wouldnt have got beer, frank would have been driving, donnie wouldnt be goin to grandma deaths house, gretchen would have got killed cause frank was driving, so on so forth!. thats why at the end donnie is smilin when he lays in bed because he's seen wat kind of impact he has created on the world, just like the ironic tale by graham greene's the destroyers!.

yea pretty much the plane engine is wat they call " the artifact" there is one instance where the example is used by the book "the philosophy of time travel" where an arrow head feel from the sky and killed a person, where there wasnt anybody around, it was just a craft going through time!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
