1) Halloween (1978) - A very simple story, yet it manages to be very intense!. Both Jaime Lee Curtis and Donald Pleasance give oscar worthy performances!. This movie works on a very psychological level!.
2) Scream - Not only is scary, especially during the opening sequence, but it's also very funny and clever!. The acting is excellent too, considering it's a slasher film!.
3) Psycho - The grand-daddy of all slasher horror movies!. Still holds up after all these years and it's better than most modern horror movies!.
4) Seven - Not for weak stomachs, but it's very tightly produced white knuckle thriller!. Very disturbing!.
5) When A Stranger Calls (1979) - Forget about the remake, it's no good!. This, like Scream, has a brilliant opening!. Probably, the scariest moments ever produced on film!. Unfortunately, the film falls flat after the first fifteen minutes!. But those fifteen minutes truly are brilliant and extremely scary!.
