Did Walt Disney have a thing against mother figures?!

Question: Did Walt Disney have a thing against mother figures!?
Lots of characters have fathers, but not mothers:

The little mermaid
Cinderella has no mention of a Mother
Sleeping beauties mothers is barely present
Belle (beaty and the beast) has no mother

I'm sure there's more!. Is there a reason for this!?

Answers:
Aside from the fact that a lot of these come from older stories, it is felt that the loss of a mother creates a real need and longing in the character

PS, in the New Ariel film, we meet momWww@Enter-QA@Com

You are making the same assumption that others have: Disney wrote these stories!. Disney adapted all of these from centuries-old folk tales or ones written by Hans Christian Andersen and the Brothers Grimm!. "Bambi" is from a novel, so blame that author!. Disney did not create these stories! In every version of "Beauty & the Beast" that I have seen, the father is a widower!. You admit that there are parents in "Sleeping Beauty"; I don't recall her mother being absent and the king shown all of the time!. Cinderella's father is a widower who is remarried~just like in the original story! Do you want them to change that!? The stepmother and stepsisters are essential to the story!.

From the beginning of storytelling, tales of children without a mother or father or even orphaned have been a constant!. Take a look at mythologies throughout the world!. Most involve someone in that situation!. Perhaps it is to evoke sympathy for the protagonist!. Trust me, it is a constant in stories!.

Even today, we do this: Uptown Girl, Heidi, My Girl, Lemon Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events, Harry Potter, the Star Wars saga, and far more!. Think what a huge hit "Annie" has been!.

You must recall that, up until not so long ago, women frequently died in childbirth or simply died young!. Men often married more than once, meaning stepmothers were common!. also, a person's lifespan was much shorter in past centuries; so, many children WERE orphaned!. Early death was a fact, so you had many motherless, fatherless or orphaned children!.

The old stories DO have the father figure! They emphasize fathers in many of them!. That still doesn't put down Disney because they are working with original material; they did not reinterpret it! I've read all of the old stories, and I read them before they were "prettied up" to be more PC!. Look at other films about the very same ones you mention; you'll see that they are treated in the same fashion!. Watch several Sleeping Beauty or Cinderella films for comparison!. Don't point the finger at Disney! Their adaptations match the old stories in nearly all cases!.

I think you'll find that Hollywood has widowers more often than widows!. So, open up your accusation to include all storytellers~"The Ballad of Jack & Rose", "Jack the Bear", "Houseboat", "Pretty in Pink", "The Sound of Music", "Stepmom", "My Stepmother Is An Alien", "The Courtship of Eddie's Father", etc!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
