I have been a comic book fan all my life!. I did enjoy the new movie!. The Joker gives different stories about his origin!. The one thing which is clear is that he is a true anarchist!. In other words he believes in no system of law and order at all!. The movement was popular in Eastern Europe at the early part of the last century!. Basically terrorism for the sake of terrorism!. No cause but the breakdown of society!. This is a bit of a change from the Joker traditionally being an insane homicidal maniac!.
Even in the Comics they have given the Joker a few different origin stories!. The best was probably a story called "One Bad Day" in which the Joker believes a single very bad day drove him insane!.

you see Christopher Nolan or as you said "heaths" joker is supposed to portray the original joker from the first comics of batman, before he was censored and watered down and completely castrated by, first parents, then Cesar Romero, followed by Tim Burton!.
with the original joker he had no biography, no character history, in the comics like in the movie he tells many different stories the point of that being is to mess with his victims, or he just wants it to be that way at times he is able to choose his past, he is just that crazy, you get me, the point of the joker is he just wants to see things burn, fall apart, what drives him is that its fun for him and that's it, no abuse, no tragedy, he inst crazy because he can tell bad from good, to him its all for pleasure

Like in the comics, he recalls several backstories, you have to take them for a grain of salt!. Part of the character's theme is that he has no clear backstory (the 1989 Batman movie being an exception)!.

He told 2 different stories as to how he got his scars so we don't know which is truth (if either one was truth)!. In the movie, he has no name except The Joker and no one can find out who he is because no prints are on file!.

the joker is a psycho, and changes his story each time!. the first time he said it was because his dad thought he was to serious!. the next time he said it was because his wife hated that he never smiled!. she then got in a car crash, then he cut the lips and she freaked out and left him!. this just goes to say that he was such a psycho that he never revealed his pastWww@Enter-QA@Com
He gives a couple of reasons, but the idea is that you don't really know, nor should you!. It's common nowadays to try to pinpoint some tragic thing in a person's past that makes them currently evil!. The scariest kind of evil though, is the kind that has no explanation!.
