In the movie "Deja Vu," wasn't the plot internally inconsistent?!

Question: In the movie "Deja Vu," wasn't the plot internally inconsistent!?
Why, at the beginning of the film, did the woman's apartment show signs of the Denzel Washington character having been there (showing that he had in fact already gone back in time), but also began with the horrific explosion on the boat, which (if the character had already gone back in time, would not have occurred)!? Is this just necessary to establish the plot of the movie!? Or are we to assume that somehow he may have "gone back" more than once, and that the timeline we see in the film relfects him going back but not preventing the blast!? But how could that be - he sees the ambulance at the dock where he "rescued" the woman, but yot her body still washes up, having been killed before the blast!.

Yes, I know it's just a movie!. But have there been other theories on this!? Thanks!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
