I like going to the cinema period!. It's my favorite thing to do!. Would love to be a movie critic!. Actually sometimes I would prefer it if the bad guys would get away!. It sometimes makes the movie more exciting!. Oh I can't think of that movie with Denzel Washington and Jodie Foster about the bank robbery heist and Clive Owen got away!. That was fun, because I like Clive Owen!.

Where have you been for decades!?! Good guys haven't always won!. From the beginning of filmmaking, there have been endings in which the "good guy(s)" die or don't otherwise win!. One recent example is "Cloverfield"!.
"Downer" endings certainly aren't new either!. Try watching "All Quiet on the Western Front" (1930)!. You've already been given other examples!. Why not ask for a list of them if you're unhappy about upbeat endings!? Be aware that there are likely as many movies in which evil triumphs as "good people win"!. Sometimes, films end with what is called a Pyrrhic victory, meaning losses make the win meaningless!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

What an erroneous comment/question!. I won't list the movies cause other answer before have done a good job providing that information!. also, even if the good people win, movies are watched and make money because of entertainment!. A movie like Deliverance has no winner, it is just a F'd up film!. The bad guys win in Swimming with Sharks too!.!.!. I am not entertaining this anymore!.!.!. Www@Enter-QA@Com

also, the movie is not about the ending but about how you got there!.
An example would be Columbo shows!. We know how the killer committed the crime!. We know that Columbo will catch the killer!. However, we do not know how it will happen!. We know the ending (pretty much) but we keep watching wondering how we will get to that ending!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Because it is a nice escape from the reality that, in real life, the good guys don't always win!. It's nice to see some evil corporate crimelord or murderer get his come-uppance - sadly, in the real world, this does not always happen!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Because it's for the thrill, the ride, the entertainment!. Despite us knowing that the "good guys" always win, there's nothing that beats sitting down to watch a good crime-fighting film or what have you!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
Try watching a film made by non US companies, they all end badly, The yanks cant watch films like that because it confuses them and makes them all upset and angry!.!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
