Answers:
No offense to the others that have answered this question but they are high on opinion and low on facts !.!.!. IMHO anyways!. I have to say that "Thomas" is the first "old timer" that I've seen say they wish they could have watched them 1 - 6!. As he says, in the end it comes down to personal choice but every reason that I've seen for watching them 1 - 6 can be blown apart with the straight facts about the movies!. Anyways !.!.!.

The order of release and name of the movies are as follows:

1977 : Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope
1980 : Star Wars Episode V : The Empire Strikes Back
1983 : Star Wars Episode VI: Return Of The Jedi

1999 : Star Wars Episode I : The Phantom Menace
2002 : Star Wars Episode II : Attack Of The Clones
2005 : Star Wars Episode III : Revenge Of The Sith

Even though they were made first the OT (ep IV - VI) are set 19 years AFTER the events of the prequels (ep I - III)

If you have never seen any of the Star Wars movies before and you want to experience the feeling of Star Wars the way it was meant to be then the way to watch them is ep 4 -6 then ep 1 - 3 !.!.!. the way they were released!.

Since you haven't seen the movies I can't pull out some of my tried and true reasons for this because I would be giving some of the best parts of the movies away!. One way I can say it is this: In ep V: The Empire Strikes Back there is a scene in that movie that was voted by SAG as the #4 most shocking revelation in the entire history of movies!. If you watch them 1 - 6 you will lose much of the "WTF" value that scene in ep V because you will already know that "secret" and it won't seem like a big deal !.!.!. the problem with that is that it WAS a big deal back in 1980 and the same holds true today !.!.!. it turned the whole Star Wars galaxy on its collective ear and was something that all of us major geeks debated right up until the day ep VI came out !.!.!. if you must know my "theory" on what the truth really was WAY off !.!.!. lol !.!.!.

Anyways, watch them ep 4 - 6 then ep 1 - 3 !.!.!. they will flow together much better that way!.

If you're wondering WHY they were released the way they were there are several very good reasons but I don't think I have the room here to go into it !.!.!. drop me a line off board if you want the full "scoop" on that!.

Now, the Clone Wars!. In ep 4 - 6 they are mentioned briefly but not much is ever said about them!. One of the answers here says that ep 2 centers on the Clone Wars !.!.!. that's not really true !.!.!. the entire prequel trilogy, ep 1 - 3 are built around the Clone Wars as it is in this time period that the Republic fell and the Empire came into being!. The ironic thing is that we don't really see much of the Clone Wars in the movies!. The Clone Wars start at the end of ep 2 and end basically at the beginning of ep 3!. To bridge the gap between ep 2 & 3 Lucas commissioned TCN (The Cartoon Network) to do a animated "micro-series" to give fans some info about the many battles of the Clone Wars!. They were released in 2003 & 2004 to add to the "hype" that was building for the release of ep III!. This micro-series on TCN was made up of 25 five minute "episodes" over two "seasons"!. The first season contained the first 20 episodes and the second season had the last 5 episodes in it and ep 25 of the micro-series ends right where ep III begins!. The movie coming out on August 15th is animated and is titled Star Wars: The Clone Wars!. It is set in between ep II & ep III just as the micro-series on TCN was!. This movie will also be the kick off for a new animated series on TCN that will delve much deeper into the many battles of The Clone Wars that fans have never known about!. The movie and series will be set in between ep 21 & ep 25 of the micro-series!. Here are a couple of links for trailers and other info on the new movie and series:

I will say that if this new movie is the first Star Wars movie that you've ever seen then I would bet they will be confusing but not unenjoyable!. Another thing that needs to be made CRYSTAL CLEAR !.!.!. the use of the word "episode" in my description of the early Clone Wars series on TCN is also a little misleading!. Both of the Clone Wars series and the movie itself are NOT "episodes" of the movie saga itself!. These are "fill in the blank" shows meant to give fans more knowledge of what happened during the Clone Wars!. There are only 6 episodes of the movie saga and that is all that there ever will be!. If someone tries to tell you that Lucas is going to make ep 7 - 9 or something like that they are so full of sh*t that it's running out of their ears!. When I hear people say that the new animated movie and series look bad or aren't part of the whole story of Star Wars or any of the 100s of other BS comments it truly boggles my mind!. First, if there is any movie series out there that just BEGS to be carried on in animation it is Star Wars!. Second, it seems like many people hear the word "animation" and automatically think it is going to be crap without even giving it a chance!. If you liked the recent new Avatar series then you will like this series because the same guy is heading up the animation department!. The series on TCN will have at least a 3 year run and Lucas states in a recent interview that he sees the series lasting 5 or 6 years!. The first season is already in the can and waiting to be debuted !.!.!. the second season is half done and the third season is already written just waiting to be done!.

In closing all I can say is give it a whirl !.!.!. these movies have millions of fans and they are a story that I truly doubt we will ever see again!. Ask 10 Star Wars fans why they love the saga and you are likely to get 10 different answers as this saga touches people in different but powerful ways!.

There are six movies:
Episode 1 the Phantom Menance (fourth released)
Episode 2 Attack of the Clones (Fifth released)
Episode 3 Revenge of the Sith (Sixth Released)
Episode 4 A New Hope (first released)
Episode 5 The Empire Strikes back (second released)
Episode 6 The Return of the Jedi

You can watch them in either of these orders and they will make sense:
123456
456123

Most Long Time Star wars fans will suggest watching them in the other 456123 since that is the experience they had and the order they were released!.

I myself (who saw them in this order) have wish I could erase my mind and try watching them 123456 just to see how my perception of the movies changes!.

It is a total value judgment on your part which way you want to go!. 456123 is release order!. 123456 is chronological order for the Story!.

The reason I personally would like to go back and watch them in the 123456 order without knowledge of the movies is so I wouldn't know exactly how things turn out in the end!.

Again, personal preference!. Enjoy the movies!Www@Enter-QA@Com

Haha!. I go through this with my son all the time!. Okay, The last 3 (episodes 5,6,7) were released in the late 70s early 80s!. So, really they are numbers 1,2, and 3, with episodes I,II, III being pre-quels!. If you want to watch them in order of the story, you should watch Episode I: The phantom menace, Episode II: Attack of the Clones, Episode III: Revenge of the sith, Episode 4: A new Hope, Episode 5: The Empire Strikes Back, Episode 6: Return of the Jedi!. The clone war is the topic of Episode II!. It's not the title of the movie!. And I'm not sure about the CGI star wars movie that's coming out next month!. I don't quite understand where in the timeline it takes place!. Hope that helps!!Www@Enter-QA@Com

You can start at Episode one because that's the start of the story!. Clone Wars coming out in August is a sh*tty looking cartoon and I wouldn't worry about it!. If you just start at episode one you won't get lost and you'll learn what the clone wars were!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
